Late last month South Australian Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment the Hon David Ridgway visited the newly established Detmold Medical facility to see it transformed.

The space has been converted from a finished goods warehouse to a manufacturing facility, with quick work from Detmold Group employees and external contractors to transform the facility and set-up for production.

With an initial two machines installed ahead of the Minister’s visit, the Hon David Ridgway was one of the first people to see machines running.

Federal Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Karen Andrews echoed that sentiment in a recent interview with Industry Update Manufacturing Magazine.

“As Industry Minister I have been deeply impressed by how promptly and efficiently companies across the country have ramped up their existing operations, or adapted and pivoted to produce essential medical equipment for frontline health workers and ventilators for sick patients.

“From the onset, the Morrison Government has been working closely with local industry and the states and territories to establish a domestic manufacturing footprint for a range of PPE, to expand domestic supply chains, and to keep people in work.

“We’ve helped South Australian packaging manufacturer Detmold Group pivot to produce millions of surgical masks and respirators – 100 million for the National Medical Stockpile and 45 million for South Australia,” Minister Karen Andrews said.

As the production facility continues to come together, masks will be put through accelerated testing ahead of full production commencing.

The project team is working to an ambitious timeline to allow capacity to manufacture 20million masks per month by the end of June.
